Confront the Philistines (Principalities) 1 Samuel 7, 11-12

January 20, 2019

And the men of Israel went out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines, and drove them back as far as below Beth Car. Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us” (1 Samuel 7, 11-12).

With Elohim’s help, the Philistines were confused and half way defeated. Jesus Christ did the same for us on the cross of Calvary. In fact, He did more than that: He gave us a complete victory over the enemy and his cohorts.

The bible says in Colossians 2, 15: “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it”. On the cross, Jesus won the victory over the enemy for us and declared “it is finished”. All we need to do now is to enforce that victory in our lives by confronting the enemy of our soul or every high thing that exalt itself against the knowledge of God in our lives.

As Israel overcame their fear and stood up to the Philistines, we too we have to put on our whole armour and oppose the enemy; for God has not given us the spirit of fear. The bible says “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6, 12).

We might not have physical Philistines or Midianites contending with us but there are spiritual powers opposing our walk in Christ. That sickness, financial hardship, addiction or rebellious child etc. might be your Philistines or Amorites coming against you to oppress and chase you out of your promised land.

Arise child of God and take dominion for “we have spiritual weapons that are mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10, 3-5). These weapons are waiting to be deployed by us, therefore put on the whole armour of God and stand your ground (Ephesians 6, 14-18). The battle is already won by our Saviour and Redeemer Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Heaven is waiting for us to enforce the victory in our lives.

The bible says “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” (NKJV, Matthew 18:18) or “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whatever you bind [forbid, declare to be improper and unlawful] on earth shall have [already] been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose [permit, declare lawful] on earth shall have [already] been loosed in heaven” AMP.

Let’s begin to disallow the enemy out of our lives through the name of Jesus; at the mention of that name everything ought to bow.
