Divine help, Call unto Him! 1 Samuel 7, 9

January 17, 2019

And Samuel took a suckling lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord. Then Samuel cried out to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord answered him (1 Samuel 7, 9).

The people of God in the midst of their great repentance revival, were confronted by not only the Philistines but this time around by their lords meaning their princes who rule over principalities. They were confronted by principalities of their land the same way we too as believers, will face them at one point in time in our Christian journey for the bible says “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities…” (Ephesians 6, 12).

Israel unlike other times cried unto the Lord for help. Samuel petitioned God and interceded for the nation and the Lord answered!! He answered them by a great miracle.

The Lord said in Jeremiah “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know” (Jeremiah 33, 3). It is a promise from the Lord that He will show up whenever we cry out for His help.

Divine help comes when we call upon Him. Help is defined as “assistance, aid, support or advice to make it easier or possible for someone to do something”. To ask for help is to accept that you can’t do it on your own or someone else support will make it easier for you in your time of need.

Israel acknowledged that they were limited in their fight against the Philistines and they called for help. People God, child of God, we have a God that is able to do exceedingly and abundantly what we can imagine or think off, so call unto Him. Commit all your difficulties and challenge unto Him and ask for His help. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46, 1).

Jesus is the answer for all our problems: He is the Prince of peace (who doesn’t need peace in this world of turmoil?), He is the Healer, He is the bread of life (the food that we are working that hard to get), the breath of life (that is giving life that we are glorying in so much) and He is life itself (We have Him and we have life here and there after). It will be common sense and wisdom to ask for somebody like that for help. He is all and everything we are looking for in this life and more: He is the resurrection.

Israel called upon God and He fought for them and delivered them from the hands and oppression of their enemies, that is why they built a memorial for Him and called it Ebenezer to remember and commemorate that Divine Help.

The year of our Divine Help! “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrew 4, 16) “for the help of man is useless” (Psalm 60,11).
